Code of Conduct

All attendees at our events are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organisers & Marshals will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect co-operation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

We would also like to refer you to our Access for All (Special Educational Needs) document which may also be of interest.

Reporting Issues and Finding Support

If you are troubled by the behaviour of another attendee at the event, or are concerned that another attendee may be in distress, please speak immediately to staff on the front desk or talk to a volunteer.

Any concern, whatever it is, will be immediately passed on to one of the organisers. The organisers will investigate promptly and, if necessary, will take appropriate action. This could include:

  • asking a violator of the Code of Conduct to leave the event immediately (no refunds will be forthcoming)
  • informing the Police about the incident

We will provide you with a written statement of the outcome, whatever it is, so please leave your contact details with us.

The Quick Version

Our events are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof) or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate in our venue or on social media surrounding the event. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the event organisers.

The Less Quick Version

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption the event, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the event organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expelling them from the event with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact one of our volunteers immediately.

Our volunteers will be happy to help participants at the venue contact local police, provide personal escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and want everyone to feel, and be, safe.

We expect participants to follow these rules both at the event and related social events.

This code of conduct is adapted from the “code of conduct for conferences”.
